In Buenos Aires December 13, 2009

Well the fam has started to arrive in force, we are four deep at this beautiful little hostel called Hostel Suites Palermo in north-ish Buenos Aires. This is my eighth day here and Juliana, Brittany, and Josiah just arrived a few hours ago. I was washing my shirt in the bathroom outside my room upstairs when I heard my brother’s voice in the hallway, a few words was all it took, so I quickly dressed and went out. I found him with my Swedish friend, Peter, with whom I had just went running; I realized they were both tallish types with high intelligence and some social awkwardness, at a similar age, no less, and felt pleased they had met. I gave Josiah a hug and promised to get dressed and meet them downstairs.
Juliana and Brittany appeared in high spirits; we hugged and exchanged platitudes and then I went to their room with them. They had attempted to find a dorm room, but all were booked; it seems they only pay as much for the private 3-bed anyway, and it’s nicer. I fed them a chocolate-covered alfajore from a local bakery with some dulce de leche on the side, and all were happy with this. Then I brought some leftover pizza that Peter and I had been sharing over the last few days–he bought some and brought it back to the hostel when we first met, seemed happy to have a friend, but he got too much pizza! This small meal was glutened and cheesed but Julie and I enjoyed it nonetheless, knowing these things might cause the stinks later on. We also enjoy the faina, a traditional Argentine variation on pizza made out of garbanzo beans. It comes with most every pizza.
The girls are napping now and Josiah just returned from some time orienting himself to the city–he met some english speakers who were kind enough to show him the mall, where he might find rollerblades. I advised my Swedish friend to go to a great vegetarian restaurant nearby and said farewell, for he takes a bus to Mendoza tonight.
In two days, three more family members arrive; three more two days after that, when we will be 10 1/2 (with baby Jack) strong. We are going to take over this hostel. And the Havanna stores all over Buenos Aires will be all out of alfajores, and the parrillas emptied of their bife de chorizo.
With love,
-Jaren

Jaren’s off to Argentina December 1, 2009

Hey loved ones, just a quick update to let you know my plans regarding the trip to Argentina.
Progress has been slow on my applications, so while I would like more time here it turns out that changing my departure date from the states tacks on fuel charges not there before, which I can’t afford to pay. So my plan is to fly to Buenos Aires this Friday morning (Dec 4), arriving Saturday morning (Dec 5), and to spend my first week there getting a sore butt in internet cafes and on the web terminals in my hostel to complete applications.
That may sound rough, but I hope to done with everything for sure by Dec 15 so I can travel with the family unperturbed by e-demands. I’ve been talking to my travel agent and she is holding a spot for me on a return flight from Argentina for January 21st, which means I have guaranteed over a month to flop around Argentina and love it. Looking forward to it.
Some special mentions:
Mom, thanks for the email, you’re a sweetheart, can’t wait to see you!
Karina, I arrive in SF January 22nd, probably in the morning, and am committed to honoring my agreement to be your driver that day. But be aware of the circumstances, I may be jet-lagged, but with only a 3-hour drive we should be okay, especially if you’re willing to drive while I sleep.
Fash, I gave the Cosmic Dog people your CD for Marcella and also picked up your glasses. I will keep them safe until we meet again in two weeks.
Love you guys and happy travels, wish me luck on all this paperwork.

We made it here all good, and found a decent place to lay our heads for the night. Tomorrow we will go back to the airport and head off to Cuzco to begin exploring and adjusting to altitude and a little slower pace of life.
We hope that you have had an opportunity to enjoy sharing some food and companionship with those you love and care about. We have thought of you often today….miss you all…much love…hope it was a great Thanksgiving…

| Hi Everyone! Ben here. First post. Figured I’d offer up some goodies. The “rents” need to pay special attention because I think they’ll love this. Eugene is known for it’s creative arts culture, to include music of course. That’s one of my favorite things about the town upon which I have set my roots. No matter the night of the week…. rain, sleet snow or sun…. there’s always a good local band playing at one of the 60 or so bars scattered throughout town. Every genre imaginable is available. I noticed this one over at Saturday Market, and not only did I like them…. they seem like something the “rents’ may enjoy.
They’re inspired by the cultural music of Zimbabwe Check them out. Simply Until next time,

Yosemite Trip and Graduations May 19, 2009
Posted by Beah in Uncategorized.add a comment
Hey everyone,
The Yosemite vacation will soon be upon us, and we are trying to make sure the accomodations are right…sooooo…we would appreciate you letting us know what your intentions are regarding when you plan on being there. We have the cabin starting Sunday June 21 through Sunday June 28. The ceremony for the scattering of Grandmas and Granpas ashes will take place on Friday June 26. Do you plan on being there the whole week, a few days, the first part, the later half, etc? Could you please respond to this ASAP as we are getting a second cabin in order to accomodate those times with the larger numbers and we need to firm up that booking. PLEASE get back to me here by Wednesday with your best guess…doesn’t need to be a commitment. Thanks!!
Also, Brittany graduates from Granada on Friday evening June 12, and Erik graduates from Univ of Oregon on Saturday June 13. We will be driving up to Oregon following Brittany’s ceremony. You are certainly welcome to attend either or both of those. We will be having a combined graduation celebration for the two of them the following weekend (we think it will be on Friday evening, June 19). It would be great to see you there.
OK, thats all for now. Please let me hear from you soon regarding Yosemite, like maybe, right now?

Mother’s Day at the Whole Earth Festival May 10, 2009

The family headed up to the Whole Earth Festival to enjoy Mother’s Day with Juliana. Joining us was Beah, Dennis, Brittany, and Sarah (and of course me – Josiah).
We got to watch Juliana drum on stage with her fellow drummers. They were incredible. Although I know that she has passion, this is the first experience I got to see her show it with a social circle. She’s amazing.
After, we enjoyed browsing the vendors (I got a few tie-die t-shirts I have been wanting and Dennis bought a small gourd-like instrument), savoring some delicious extremely healthy food (yah for smoothies, nan-wraps, and raw pizza), listening to other music groups, and napping in the shade (while Dennis drummed in the drummer’s circle).
Sorry to miss the rest of the family, but had a great time
). Here is the pictures we took.

I love you all and will keep you close to my heart every day, but specially that day. Remember that we have two new moms celebrating mothers day in our family this year.
